I am hoping some of you might have some insights to help answer my questions.
I have recently acquired what appears to have been either a trophy, presentation item, or souvenir item. It is a very detailed pewter model of an SCCA Sports RENAULT. The detail is very good, and it was made prior to the Tall-Man hoops and at one time had the old style mirrors attached (now missing.)
Does anyone on the board recall these items? Were they perhaps used as promotional items during the initial roll-out?
Rather than try and describe too much, I'll just add a few photos. You'll note the detail, in the tires, including tread, and GoodYear on sidewalls, the cockpit gauges, and not shown even A-Arms!
It was manufactured by a company in Westborough, MA, named MVM. There is a cast signature for a David "All Lenk" or something similar. The mounting screw goes through the sig.
Any recollection and/or background stories much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers - Jim

When I used to fly, I was called an AVIATOR.
Now, I race cars. So, am I called a PAVIATOR? |

These show up on Ebay occasionally, both ones that have been kicking around and some NOS ones. The story I got with the first one I bought was that they were given to people involved with the original project. Mine supposedly was given to the vendor that supplied the steel brake lines. They were mounted on a black piece of wood and did have the original style mirrors, although most you see for sale are missing them.

Right - I've removed it from the black piece of wood and cleaned it up a bit. I note this one has LUCAS on the front - possibly a purposeful addition for a specific vendor? Yours similarly "logo-ed?"

I spoke with R David Jones about this at the convention (he was on the Board of Directors at the time). He said that 100 of these were made and distributed to various people for various reasons.

WOW! Thanks for that! Would be cool if stamped xx/100. Thanks for the "fill." Cheers - Jim When I used to fly, I was called an AVIATOR.

All of them had Lucas on the front and were identical as far as I can tell. I've attached a photo of the mirrors.

Thanks for that shot - I have a set of the old ones (for the car) to work from, but this is better.

At Waterford Hills, we have an SR championship trophy that the high points driver gets his name on and keeps for a year. Sadly, my name is not on it, so I've never gotten to stare at it for any length of time.It appears that the pewter model is the same as we have on the trophy. Somehow we must have gotten a hold of one back in the 80s when the trophy was first given.
Very cool to see! Brian |

Lucas was the title sponsor of the pro series.
