In process of replacing a wheel bearing on my Gen2. On page 28-29 of the SRF Assembly Manual there is a picture showing an "axle deflector (029)".
Manual reads: "Each hub (279) comes with a stamped metal ring known as the axle deflector (029), which should be installed onto the hub before hub is installed in the wheel bearing/upright assembly."
My previous hub didn't have one of these axle deflectors. Does everyone run these?
Thanks!
Doug

The deflector is actually the surface that the original wheel bearings seal rubbed. Current bearings are sealed units and the deflector is not needed.

Understood. Thanks for the quick response. Let the reassembly continue!

I understood that there are two kinds of bearings that can be run now. One is a tapered roller and not sealed. The other is a ball bearing and might be sealed. Is my understanding incorrect? |
