Knuckles – Bearings – Axel Nuts

**Axel Nuts: My LR Axel Nut loosens about 1/16th of a turn every session, no wobble, tightens to the exact same spot every time, tried a new nut. Currently I watch it and re-torque before each and every session. Cause? Suggestions?

**Read a lot about bearings, type, brands, P/Ns: What is the best bearing for longevity, knuckle protection, Brand P/N, Source?

**Knuckles: New China ones, if bent toss them is the word, don’t straighten them. Is there a source for better ones, if so where? What is the best source for the copies?

Thanks Joel

Axle nuts: I now use the nuts with the metal detent in outside thread area (I can't recall the term) - they have a metal indentation as opposed to Nylock which I've had melt oh so many times. I haven't had any issues since switching to those nuts.

Bearings: I don't have part numbers but roller are supposed to last longer than ball and have slightly higher rolling resistance as the trade-off. I think roller are easier to source.

Knuckles: I've always heard to bend them back (at least the toe link). Haven't done it myself, but I know many who have.

Hope that helps in some way...

Are ball bearing still available? All the "retail" Renault sources are roller bearings.

How tight is your inner bearing on the hub?

Greg, I honestly don't know as I haven't tried to source bearings myself. I just buy whatever my CSR has.

The all metal axle lock nut can be bought at Autozone. The GB12438.S01 wheel bearing can be ordered through Motion Industries they are about $70 now. They get them from some other company so you will have to wait about 10 days and pay for shipping. They have come from France and Brazil.

I had the same problem last year on both rear axels. When the nuts were torqued the usual shake down test did not show any wobble. Replaced bearings, nuts would loosen up. Tried the all- metal lock nuts, helped a little but still loosened up. Eventually LR hub snapped. Replaced both hubs with the newer fast forward hubs, no problems ever since. Ran all year without a hub/bearing issue and nuts never loosened up.
