Quick motor install question

How do I re-attach the dipstick cylinder (the pipe the dipstick goes through) to the block? There are no threads and it just sits in the hole in the block. Should I use some sort of gasket sealer or silicone? I'd be worried that it would get down into the oil pan.
Let me know please! (my speed dial CSRs are all at the Sprints)
Thanks!
Denny

I know you've watched Mythbusters. There's only one answer...when in doubt:

duct tape!!!! :) :) :)

(now you know why Dave takes care of my car!)

I seem to remember I used high temp RTV (the orange stuff) to hold it in. There is also the possibility of hooking a small spring to the dipstick itself which is a sure bet to hold the tube in the block. Cheers, Rich

Smear some silicone around the tube and shove it in the hole. The spring clip attached to the intake manifold keeps it in. No worries about extra silicone getting into the block. That is what oil filters are for.
