Anyone using an AIM system with RaceRender?
I'm thinking about moving from Traqmate to AIM MXS but would really like to keep using my mobius cameras. I like to use both front and rear cams and have been told you can only use one Smartycam. The video seems to look better on the mobius cams as well.
Is it the same basic process of syncing/merging the data to the video? Any sync lag or other issues?

I've used it in the past and don't recall any issues. I coach someone who uses RaceRender with a Solo DL with great success.

Is anybody out there using the new version of the AiM Smarty Cam? http://aimsports.com/eng/products-car/s ... /index.htm

I'd like to see footage from the new camera as well. The integration with the base AIM system is a big plus but I really need more if I'm going to spend 14x as much for one camera.

Not positive, but the output on the image looks like it is. The YouTube poster didn't have the digital equipment in his first video with the car in late 2015. Had it in 2016. And there is clearly lots of new AiM hardware on the car.

My Sebring video is shot through the formula car version of the new SmartyCam. It's a really nice piece but it only goes to 720p which I find puzzling. Other than that, good stuff.

Aim says the SmartyCam has a global shutter CMOS sensor. Global shutters are very rare in action cams; the last one I remember is a Panasonic no longer available. This video, done with a motor scooter, shows the increased image stability from the global shutter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY7d1WVSzeQ
Compromises in either pricing, availability, or exposure (it is my understanding a global shutter CMOS sensor is constrained in exposure time) probably resulted in the 720p limitation. Denny, were both your cameras Aim SmartyCams? |

My sentiments exactly. Dave Harriman

Produced using Racerender 3, 2 GoPros, and an MXL2 data system. Works fine! I also have templates saved, so all I need to do to get a production render going is synch data to video. I've gotten good at it (a steering position indicator does WONDERS here -- you synch your hand motions to the sensor, and done.) |

cblough I really appreciate the information and post. I'm going to give your method a try.
