Looks like the wire mesh screen is a "home built". Wouldn't really want to have that setup with all the crap that can flung up by the rear tires. There should be sufficient air gap between the example shown my Mr. Mumm and the oil cooler to vent out the air while still offering protection to the oil cooler; I have seen variations with a bit of a bump out tapered out from the top. As far as I know the "spec" part is simply a flat aluminum panel, but that may have evolved over time.

The spec cover is a three-sided angled shroud, exiting at the floor pan.

My panel is wire mesh also, just like shown in the photo.

If I remember correctly (Bob D. help me out), we all had to cut out the existing aluminum panel for the Gen2 Ford oil cooler (it was specific on the cutout size) and install our own 1/4" wire mesh. That sufficed until the spec part for the aluminum duct came out. The duct kept our oil cooler (cooler) and very much cleaner! I don't think it was required but you have to buy the spec part to use one.
I am assuming the Gen3 uses the same aluminum spec duct? It isn't mentioned in the manual by the way. And I think that the cutout could be larger for the Gen3 oil cooler. Any help here from the Gen3 guys?

I cut out the hole in the aluminum to match the size of the Gen3 oil cooler. I have no idea if this is compliant/non-compliant, but I never had the aluminum duct cover and I did not know it is the approved cover. I used some heavier aluminum stamped sheeting to protect the oil cooler.

In the California heat, we tried to keep as much air as we could flowing around the cooler (whether from the back or front).

I've seen spacers used to move the rear panel about 1/2" off the frame.

What is the part name/number for this cover panel? Could not find on quick search of my CSR's web site.
