I am putting new shocks on my SRF. I am thinking about painting the springs. Do people spray them, or powder coat, or what?

Bob,

New springs are powder coated.

However, if you have an older car, Pre-Ford days, part of the conversion was to move the old rear springs to the front.

Those springs were painted, and chipped like crazy. White if I remember correctly.

Be very careful on any painting or powder coating with heat. Submitting springs to high heat 'can' change spring rates, usually to your detriment.

'Might' be cheaper just to get new ones.

A rubberized spray (bed liner or Plasti-Dip) would work. But I wonder if painting over the OEM markings might create a problem for the scrutineers.

You can nickel plate them. Mine show spots of rust but it took 30 years
It's better to be last on the grid at a race track, than have pole position at the Funeral Home.

We did have a car DQ'ed once for having painted the springs purple. I think it ended up overturned under protest. Don't even ask about what happened when they checked the spring rates!

I had purple front springs on my car in Kansas. Ken Brown asked where I got them because "he had never seen purple ones and they were probably illegal." :o I told him they were on the car when I bought it 5 years earlier. After careful measuring with a caliper and then a dyno test, he realized they were the proper springs....someone (not me) had just decided to paint them purple.

Didn't you get DQ'ed (temporarily) in that same event for having springs that were "too thick", Bob?
