Hi Folks,

I have been looking at a few SRF cars for sale and I have gotten a few leak down numbers from some of the owners. What sort of range should I be looking in, for a good regional car. I know that SCCA enterprises set the number @ around 16% leak down for their rebuild, anyone running a car with more? Thank you in advance.

It has hard to judge sometimes by leakdown alone. We base the decision on both that and dyno results. We've had engines with terrible leak-down #'s that are only a couple hp down and run and run. Which is all you should need to do o.k. in regionals.

4500 rebuild and sealed. Only Enterprises can do a rebuild.

Last forever 4-5 seasons is not uncommon. 40-50 hard days. As with all engines the push for the last bit of HP gives some people the desire to rebuild more often. However most people run it until there is a noticeable power issue.

Ok Dave, you got it.

I am looking at a few different cars but one of them come back with readings in the 20% range, the owner did not indicate where they thought the leak was coming out, top or bottom ( rear) of the motor.

Ask the owner the when the motor was last rebuilt (if ever)? With 20% it is a candidate for rebuild. You should consider the rebuild cost in making your offer. But it is not a big deal to remove the engine and send it back to Enterprises.

We won't send an engine based on leakdown alone anymore. The dyno tells the story.

Hope it doesn't offend anyone if we plug the one we use at Thunderhill: http://www.mcedyno.com/MCE%20RACING%20-%20Dyno%20Services.html does three passes for $59 with Air/Fuel.

Hi, starting to learn about SRFs for possible future purchase: At Thunderhill with a Dyno what should a new eng put out to the rear wheels, is the 105 HP rating Enterprise states to the rear wheels? What is suggested to be the lowest HP rating before a rebuild, the only info i have found so far is at 99 do it? Thanks Joel SF Region
