Plus this bunch which I just found here: http://racingsecrets.com/speedtalk_sponsorship.shtml
Obviously this is too many books to even think about buying. Plus I don't have the time to read so many books.
So I am wondering if anybody out there has any comments on any of these books?
Which ones are worth buying and which ones are just scams?
If you had to choose one which one would you buy?
Does anybody know about other forums which talk more about auto sponsorships?

That's a really good list, thanks for posting it. SCCA also has (used to have) some basic information. Also check out the Safe is Fast site: http://safeisfast.com/sections/11-marke ... NyN_me7EYN
My impression is the "secret" is the same as for any business. Figure out what your customer needs, figure out how you can provide value by satisfying those needs, and convincing the customer to compensate you for doing it. Dave Dave Harriman

Dave, thanks for your reply.
I understand the business aspect of things, but this book is for a friend who wants to better understand NASCAR style sponsorships in the USA. From my research, some of these texts are just for amateurs (like Phil Veldheer) but others seem like the real deal. Or maybe I am looking for a book which is not on this list? |

My impression is it is like investment books. Anyone who is good at it is in too much demand to waste time and give up their secrets in a book.
The next step up from the kind of books you listed are newsletters, like "Racing Promoters Monthly". There were a lot of good articles in the business magazines a few years ago. Once I started getting an idea of who is who and how things work, you can infer a lot of things just watching. Like the Earnhardt Nationwide commercials. By including all his family and friends in them, I assume they are making money off of knowing him, and he doesn't have to pay taxes on it... Dave Dave Harriman

Another book to add to the list:
Sponsorship and the world of motor racing (1992 - out of print) Guy Edwards $200 used (ISBN 0905138953) It turns out the only book in the list which is regularly found in used books stores is the Great Money Hunt by Andrew Waite (ISBN 0963631802) so I bought this book. The RaceQuest Marketing Manager + 25 Turn-Key Sponsorship Programs are $39.98 combined with no shipping so I also bought these books. Finally, I bought The Secret World of Racecar Sponsorships. I came across some articles which some might find interesting: http://www.stockcarracing.com/featuredv ... ewall.html http://www.stockcarracing.com/featurest ... ewall.html http://www.circletrack.com/tipstricks/c ... ewall.html http://www.stockcarracing.com/tipstrick ... ewall.html http://www.circletrack.com/ultimateraci ... ewall.html http://www.circletrack.com/ultimateraci ... ewall.html These websites are helpful when looking for low priced books on the Internet: http://www.abebooks.com http://www.bookfinder.com http://www.thriftbooks.com http://www.alibris.com http://www.biblio.com http://www.ebay.com/chp/books http://books.products.half.ebay.com http://www.amazon.com The funny thing is that after looking at all of those different website, Amazon turned out to have the cheapest prices, even on used books, so I ordered everything through Amazon. I'll provide some reviews after I finish all this homework. |
