I tried to attach the diagram for the two piece belly panels, but the file size was too big. PM me
if you want it.

Time for another Frankenspec update!

We are T minus two months until drivers school weekend at Blackhawk Farms. I am hopeful that I can get the car done in time and have a little shakedown before drivers school. What is holding me back right now is just funds for purchasing parts. I am in a what is pretty much a minimum wage job that I can't seem to get out of. I will say resumes are evil, but now back to the race car.

I recently had the steel plates for under the fuel cell, seat and footwell welded in by a coworker. In the process of doing that I also replaced the tube that went under the seat as it was eaten raw by rust.

To weld the plates the car had to be in a unique position. I hope this is the only time it is like this. The flagger in me just shakes my head.

I was fortunate enough to acquire some more parts thanks to Tony Grau! Some big must needed items were in this collection. One of the items was the radiator, the bracketing is a bit beat up but hopefully I hammer and bend back into place, the core looks in decent shape. Along with it recieve the lower radiator pan, it is very blue. The brake ducts for the pan prob shouldn't even bother trying to salvage those but we will see.

Tony was also Gracious enough to donate a Spare Fire system! Thanks again Tony!

Yes there i still a lot to go, suspension a arms, control arms, uprights, calipers, hubs, axles, pedals, fuel cell plate, steering, and more. So if anyone has this bits just collecting dust in the corner of their garage and wants to sell them just let me know. Otherwise I will be purchasing from the CSR when the funds allow.

Thanks again SRF Community!

The plan is for the floor to go in on Sunday. Joel Parris was gracious enough to loan me his set of Clecos.

I was also wondering if anyone knows the exact filler plate we use with our fuel cell? If not exact one that will work? I have been able to find the 45 degree bend but the hole if offset on racer wholesale. Any help would be appreciated.

Time is winding down till when this needs to be done. Not sure if it will make it or not but still going to do my best. Recently sustained what is most likely a cracked rib so that isn't helping. In the words of Yoda, "Do or Do not, there is not try."

Also does anyone have tips for inserting the picture directly into the forum without having to constantly resize them in a an editor? I'm sure you much rather see the pics in the forums than follow the links. :D

Yeah I have looked at this before, but it seems to only list stuff as an assembly. I already have the bladder and filler foam. Trying to figure which off the shelf plate from ATL would work.

You may want to check with ATL as they could confirm the fill plate size. I expect that it would like the TF259 listed here: http://atlinc.com/fill-plates.html. I would still suggest checking with a CSR as I'm sure they can get a complete assembly of the plate and all the necessary fittings for the SRF. I assume you're going with the external, rather than internal, fuel pump? You will also need the box in the cell that has the balls that control fuel slosh to ensure you get proper fuel pickup.

So quick little update. I have gotten a lot more parts, and have been doing a bit of working on stuff and inventory. The car has taken a bit of a break while I have been healing up from the rib injury and working on job applications.

There is good new though. I will be participating in the drivers school at Blackhawk Farms on Friday, just not in FrankenSpec. I am currently only schedule to do the Friday so I can get that part of the license completed. As of not I am not doing the races on Sat/Sun just due to funds, but I will be there those days probably as a Emergency Services truck captain....so I could possibly still be on track. :D

This is of course the weather behaves! Here in Chicago we could get 2 inches of snow, but it is supposed to warm up for the weekend.

Update time!!!

I now have brake caliper and brackets, Old style UCA, possible useable pads, some of the rub rail brackets and I am sure few other things I can't remember off the top of my head at 8:30pm and still at work. I also want to thank Tony Grau for a set of used rubber that was only used for the testing at Indy!

Now time for the BIG NEWS!!! I am sure you are wondering how drivers school went?

It was awesome!!!!! I could have done without showing up to the track and there being snow, or that it go down to 24 degrees the first night, said screw the tent and slept in the tower. I needed my sleep and to be alert and fresh for the day.

My fastest time of the weekend was a 1:21.9 I know there is a lot more time to gain and I have the hunger to do it! I probably started off way to cautious, but it was cold not my car and first time in one of them. Also having your pedals adjusted after what you thought was good just opens yours eyes! Even the 2nd session I was probably still a bit back. I did progress throughout the day, getting faster each session. Didn't have the beacon out so my times were a guess for the most part on Friday.

I have a saying, consistently inconsistent. it can relate to a lot of things but it followed here too, the nice thing was is that I proving the opposite each session. Early Apexing was one thing I noticed from the weekend and was getting better on some turns. I was overslowing Turn 1 and most likely was still by the end of the weekend. For the first day I didn't adjust brake bias, after doing that it helped going into 1.

I did have a spin or two and a four off at the exit of a turn....but I passed!!!!! On cooldown lap I probably waved like I won the race! Dream fulfilled!

We say the racing community is a family and it showed even more so this weekend to me. I wasn't planning on racing just do to funds and also I was using someone else car. Well one of my flagger family asked if she could pay the entry fee so I could at least race one day! I am still choked up about it.

I elected to run on Sunday as it was just a bit too crazy after doing the practice starts in the morning and then having to get my books and registration done, ontop it looked like it was going to rain. I was lucky I didn't race saturday as there was a bit of a mess at the start and some cars didn't make it pass the start finish line.

Qualifying on sunday could have been better, I had forgetten the day before to zip tie the PCV valve as I had to clean up its mess during the school. This came to bite me in qualifying. Had maybe 4 laps before issues. Still got down to a 22.8 and hadn't even started pushing.

So race time...I would show you the whole race but for some reason the gopro only recorded me getting into the car and then arriving at the grid. Thanks! I took it easy at the start and got around some cars. Had a great battle with Elizabeth going for several laps. I know going into Turn 6 I could have made the pass maybe twice but was being cautious. Going into 7 one lap I was like ok Beau has enough to fix after Saturday we don't need to do any more. So I slightly just eased up enough to give ourselves some breathing room. Of course I then spun at Turn 7. Got going, went into one easy and the rear just came around...I am assuming muddy tires.

The rest of the race was just trying to improve and stay out of the Leaders and the Gen 3 way. I had an absolute blast and can't wait to race again. Even writing this I am saying to myself, I must get back in a car...now! Hopefully I can get my car done and ready for the Firecracker.

Some little vids. I have a lot more video to sort thru but feel free to critique

Congrats. We always tell students that people who pass the racing license school are the ones who are safe, not necessarily the ones who are fast. As long as you knew the flags, observed the flags and were predictable on track, you're good to go. Speed will come.
