Go to 00:40 on this video and see one of the many benefits of having a centrally-mounted driver's seat. (PS: I can barely reach my own damn mirrors during a race.)

I can't stop laughing - looks like the driver gave a thumbs up to the perpetrator.

If memory serves me I think Bob Devol tried to do that to one of my old mirrors on the back straight at Watkins Glen. No comment about my old mirrors Sir Walsh ;)

Well, um, not exactly. But I wish I could have torn those crappy Vittiloni Californian mirrors off your car in any case.

I did, however, save one my current mirrors from losing its glass while qualifying. I was heading toward Turn 8 at The Glen, glanced to check my left mirror and noticed it was actually floating free in the low pressure air pocket about an 1/8 inch off the mirror housing. I gently placed my hand on the mirror glass and held it into its mount while driving back to the pits. That saved me a few bucks, boy howdy. Still use that repaired mirror.

Lol. Been there, done that.

Back in my ITB days, Eddie Tucker (aka "Eddie the Ice Racer") and I were always somewhere near each other on track. The first time he did this to me was at Nelson Ledges, somewhere between the exit of the Carousel and the Kink. The favor was repaid. Transactions continued at Watkins Glen, etc. I remember screwing around with window net mountings specifically so I could re-adjust the mirror, and return the favor.

Of course, I'll deny it all now.
