Yea, and speaking of blocking... how 'bout the block Masa put on Alonzo for most of the race. Thank goodness someone told Masa to let the whiner by... Man-oh-man was I disappointed with that BS. I guess if your making a kagillion dollars a year for a team, you do as your told.
I think my radio would have had a catastrophic failure... |

Alonso is just blessed. 2007 Hungary, he is told to "hold" in the pits to make sure he locks down the pole from his teammate, Hamilton. 2008 Singapore, he is told where his teammate (Piquet) will stuff it into the wall to insure his win. 2010 Germany, he is told to quit whining and "we'll get that wacky Braziian to pull over and let you by".

Whatever Helio did, it was not blocking by any definition I've ever seen. He ran defensive, but not ridiculously so. He left the outside open for anyone who wanted to use it (for example, watch the line that Dixon took). The only time he changed his line at all was after Power committed to the outside, Helio moved to driver left slightly to open the angle on the corner.
IMHO - the IRL damaged their own credibility by over-officiating. |

Has anyone considered that due to the exceptionally wide track on that straight that Helio left plenty of room for Power to to to the right of him? Had Power made such a move I would concede the violation of their stupid rule, but Power never tried and Helio never got anywhere near the right side curb. If Power had the attachments to try it that would be one thing but he chose instead to try the less risky outside-inside repass move. Anyone here ever gone WAY inside to pass someone running down the middle of the track? (Think 2009 June Sprints.) We've all done it and sometimes it actually worked!
BTW, after puking while watching Helio get all weepy after winning at Indy I thought it was nice to see that testosterone still flows through his veins. |

Total crap. Barnhart needs to be put off to pasture like Tony has been. Power popped out of line right at or right after the start finish line. Therefore, Helio was stuck on the inside. What is he supposed to do? Back off and let power through and get back in line? Uh, no. But if that is how the rule is written they must enforce it. But, with only 3 laps to go you gotta let the boys race. Its like calls in a game 7 of an NBA Championship must be really bad to get the foul, they let those play. Stupid.

You nailed it, Trev. Smart officials are always wary of not getting too much in the way of play when the money is on the line. Auto racing officials need to understand this, too.
It's all about the art of officiating. The official needs to acquire a subtle feel of the game. Unfortunately, the voltage flowing through Barnhard's tendrils is kinda low. |
